The Industrial Manifesto!

This is why we fight.

These are the Seeds of Revolution!

Once in every generation there comes a time when the fate of the world and life as we know it hang in the balance and one wrong move will swing the scales in a direction that brings about nothing but ruin to our way of life. At this very moment, the scales are tilted in just such a direction - they are titled toward the Age of Information. To balance the scales and to bring this world back to what is considered moral right and just, we must put all energies into returning to a less complex and uncluttered way of life. We must bring about the Industrial Revolution. We must make the fruits of our labours meaningful and not merely a point on some matrix. We must use our bodies as well as our mind to create what we know is for the betterment of all humanity. For those who feel that information is the only answer, we must totally and utterly destroy them with the might of what our hands can create.

Do you want to sit idly by while your brothers and sisters take up arms to overthrow this tyranny? Do you want to live your life bound in chains to the upswings and downturns that have been plotted upon a matrix? Will you be one of the brave souls that can see beyond the lies and do something to change the human condition? Will you be the one who will shred the charts and with your hands, create something that is of importance? It is up to each and every one of us to do what is right for ourselves, will you float downstream in the raging rapids of data, or will you protect society and build a great dam that will stop this deluge?

Information only has value for a brief period of time, but a great work can survive tens of thousands of year. To put it simply; would you be remember five hundred from now for increasing productivity one-half of one percent throughout your workplace, or would you be remember for doing some monumental like building the Brooklyn Bridge? And that is what the Industrial Revolution is all about - mental gymnastics versus physical labour.

Our lives cannot be based upon the collection of data alone. While there is a need for some information, the overuse of such statistical materials produces nothing. The demographics of all who read this can easily be charted and a matrix of this information developed, but what does this accomplish other than provide work for someone who will sit it a cubicle and chart such things? It accomplishes nothing. What is of importance for those of you who read this is what you do with what is read, how you will take this information and use it to build a greater society? How will you, the Captains of Industry, use this to tear down the walls of information and build walls of concrete and steel? How will you look beyond the charts and graphs and produce something that has meaning, that has value, that the world will remember you by?

Do you want to live your life fine-tuning the numbers so that graph moves in a direction that makes the gods of the boardroom smile upon you or do you want to spend your life creating something that the generations to come will gaze upon in wonder asking the questions that there are no answers for? The choice is simple if the decision were up to me. I cannot choose the road you travel upon, I will not withhold your bonuses for non-performance, I am only here to point you to the truth that can be found in my words. I can show you the mountain, but I cannot carve the work that lies within. What you do is your choice, but if you choose to follow the Revolution, you will find the truth that is in all men and you will not find this truth on a graph, you will only find the truth etched in the bricks of the Great Wall, you will only find the truth scratched in the face of the Sphinx, you will only find the truth buried deep within the Sands of Time.

The struggle will not be easy for no struggle ever is. And resist will be great especially from those who live the lie and chart the fate of mankind. We must bring an end to this 'information society'. We must build with hands a perfect world that all will enjoy. We must create works that will exist for all eternity. We must fight with every ounce of energy we can muster for what is right. We are the ones who will bring about the Industrial Revolution. And we will triumph over the paper society and we will create anew a society of concrete and steel that is as strong and unchanging as our wills. This is why we fight.

The Paradigm of Quality and Lean

Industry has lost its edge in making what is loosely called 'junk'. Quality costs money and this is why the industrial backbone of this country is losing ground to foreign competition. For instance, if a person needed to buy a hacksaw for a weekend project they had planned would they pay $20 for an professional grade tool made to exacting standards and of the highest quality or would they pay $6 dollars for a tool that will get the job done and probably sit on their workbench until another project arises that requires this tool? The answer is simple for those who have more brains than money, the individual would buy what is needed at the lowest possible price. Can this country produce a $6 hacksaw? Yes, but industry would need to change the way it is conducted in some very foundamental ways. First, industry needs to reacquire the ability to produce less than perfect products. Second, throw out all of the lean gimics and return to doing what made this country great, mass producing goods. Ecomonies of scale prove that when a product is produced on a grand scale, the cost of the product will drop leading to the cost to the consumer falling. Also, producing on a grand scale will eliminate the smaller, leaner companies - Darwin would call this survival of the fittest, but on these terms it would be considered survival of the companies that can crush the competition. The room for industrial development is available, the resources for producing on a grand scale are within the borders of the country, the skilled workers (though everyday the number is decreasing due to lack of use) are there, so there is no reason why this country cannot accomplish the work that is required of it. We must break free of the quality paradigm, we must be willing to produce a product that is less than perfect, we must destroy our competitors and regain the lead in this global economy. These are the things that must be done, and we are the ones who will do it.

Can you sell lean to your customers? If you happen to be a consultant, the answer may well be yes. But if you are producing a product or offering a service, do will your customers buy lean? This at first sounds like a stupid question, but what are your customers buying from you? Your customers do not care how the good or service is accomplished, the only conern that they have is whether or not they are receiving what they are paying for, when they expect it, and at a price they are willing to pay. So what is the driving force behind the "new and improved" means of doing business. To answer this, one only needs to look to those who benfit the most from reduced inventory levels, only working at pace that will produce only what is needed, maintaining prices that will produce a maximum profit with a minumal amount of effort. And the answer that rises from the depths of Hell is Wall Street and the entire stockmarket process for it has been said that he who controls the money supply controls the country, and this still holds true though not many will admit to this being the case. To break the stranglehold of those who force us into servitude that there is little or no chance of escaping, wew must tear down the paper cells that hold us. We must forge the tools of our escape and the chains that will forever hold the greed of the financial markets of this world.

What philosphy do you want driving your business? Do you want to be Chinese or Japanese? Lean makes sense to the Japanese because they have limited space and limited resources to produce their goods. The Chinese nearly have an exact opposite approach to manufacturing being that they have the resources and available space to produce in vast quantities. The Japanese produce what the market can support whereas the Chinese produce in a quantity that is designed to flood the market and eliminate the weaker competitor. Do you want to be a reed bending in the wind or do you want to be the wind? The choice is simple to those versed in the ways of war, use your opponents weakness to destroy them. Take their industrial know-how and out produce them, out price them, out sell them and by these means you will destroy them.

We are the visionaries who look to change the future. We are those who are brave enough to venture into this new frontier. We are the revolutionaries who will bring about this change. The time to act is now. The need for change is now. The Revolution begins now.
