Who we are

_______________________________________________________

The Patagonia and Hermitage Volunteer Fire Departments have been faithfully serving the citizens of Hermitage for over 50 years. The officers and members of these departments receive no monetary income for serving the community. Their reward for the unselfish time and labor to respond to emergency incidents and maintaining a highly visible and active volunteer fire department is simply the satisfaction of serving the citizens in their time of need. The volunteer fire fighters dedicate and pride themselves in providing the best possible fire, rescue, and emergency services to the City of Hermitage, its residents, businesses, and professional community.

The volunteer fire department has committed itself to the future of the community by investing income from their fund raising activities toward the purchase of modern fire fighting apparatus and equipment. To remain effective in this mission, we must constantly strive to upgrade our fire fighting techniques, emergency response skills, and training, as well as the support equipment and apparatus required to do the job properly. It is to this end that we solicit our citizen's support of the fire department.

It gives us great pleasure to work with and for the cadre of dedicated fire fighters whose team efforts have made your fire department what it is today.

What we do, who we are.

What is a Fire Department

To some citizens, the fire department exists to do one thing extinguish fires. This concept is a carryover of by gone years. Today, the fire department is your local level, first line of emergency defense.

A fire department must be capable of responding to not only fire alarms, but also coping with hazardous material incidents, providing emergency medical rescue services, and serve as a community's primary source of trained personnel and resources for emergency response should the community be struck by a natural or man-made disaster.

Other objectives of a fire department are to educate the public in both fire and life safety subjects in an effort to reduce property loss, penal injury, and life loss by fire or unsafe environments. This part of fire department operations come under the categories of fire code enforcement, public fire education programs, fire prevention inspections, along with fire cause investigations. Your life safety is our primary concern and mission.

This is what a fire department is and accomplishes today, a provider of emergency services and fire education to its citizens. We are pleased to say that the Patagonia and Hermitage volunteer fire departments are full service fire departments standing ready to respond to the emergency needs of our community.
