WinBeam, Inc. is introducing a new high-speed
wireless Internet service and a host of other
enhanced data services to the Blair County business
community, beginning in November.
With
connection speeds up to thirty times faster than
traditional dial-up modems, continual access,
instant connections, and the elimination of phone
lines, WinBeam, Inc. offers services superior
to traditional Internet providers.
Through
the use of a group of Multichannel Multipoint
Distribution Service (MMDS) licenses from the
Federal Communications Commission (FCC), WinBeam
will provide fixed wireless broadband service
that is free from outside interference. Unlike
traditional unlicensed Internet Services, these
licenses are protected by the FCC and thus allow
WinBeam to provide consistent high-quality service.
Enhanced
data services to be provided include web hosting,
E-Mail hosting, and Microsoft Access database
consulting. In addition, services such as application
hosting (Microsoft), voice over IP/IP telephony,
and security and backup services will also be
available in the future.
WinBeam
will initially offer three levels of service:
Broadband Intro, designed for small offices and
home-based businesses priced at $99 a month; Broadband
Workgroup, a more powerful service geared toward
small office networks and workgroups is priced
at $199 a month; and Broadband Office, a service
level specifically for businesses with heavy upstream
requirements and busy networks, priced at $249
a month. All service packages include a graduated
number of E-Mail accounts and free web space.
WinBeam services will be billed on a month-to-month
basis and will require no long-term contracts.
Equipment and installation charges will vary and
will be in addition to the monthly service fees.
WinBeam,
Inc. is a start-up company that is developing
broadband wireless in Pennsylvania, New York,
Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, and Ohio. WinBeam
holds broadband wireless spectrum rights passing
over 1.7 million homes in 15 small to medium markets
