WinBeam, Inc. announced today that the Federal
Communications Commission (FCC) has accepted and
placed on public notice the company's applications
for authorization to provide fixed wireless broadband
service in Altoona, Pennsylvania and Elmira/Corning,
New York. WinBeam had submitted the applications
in the FCC's first rolling filing window that
began last month.
The
FCC's public announcement of these and other applications
from various MMDS/ITFS operators across the country
triggers a 60-day public notice period. If no
petitions to deny an application are filed within
60 days after the public notice, the application
automatically will be considered granted and the
FCC will issue a license.
"The
filing of these applications coupled with the
granting of licenses in Maryland has moved WinBeam
from the spectrum acquisition phase into full
system development", said Robert Patterson,
General Manager of WinBeam. "We are now focused
on working with our vendors and local business
leaders to bring broadband access and enhanced
data services to these markets. We are actively
seeking local personnel, key customers and strategic
relationships in each market area."
